Veteran's Day Weekend

Busy few days.  Nice to have freedom so we can enjoy our busy days.  Thank you soldiers!

Friday:
- Ryan left for a scout backpacking trip
- Primary program practice - I headed up nursery efforts since my 2 two year olds would make up about 1/3 of the kids needing to be watched.
- Lucy and Elsa were invited to a friend's birthday party down at our park.  They were very much excited to get to go.  Friends and getting invited places are starting to have a bigger impact on these little girls.
- Lucy and Elsa got to bring their friend Courtney home to play for the afternoon.  I love watching them with friends.
- Lucy and Elsa spent at least an hour working on craft crowns from the $ store.  A dollar well spent. Well, it was their Halloween dollar.  Thanks grandma.
- Hot water heater got fixed for the 2nd and 3rd time.  We finally have hot water again.  I didn't take too many showers this week.
- Cleaned bathrooms and made the house look less of a mess.
- Outdoor movie night at aunt Katie's.  My dad has been planning this for a while and it didn't disappoint.  Nachos, popcorn, pizza and candy.  Plus, cousins from Safford came for the weekend.  Dominic turned 15 on 11-11-11.
- Finally everyone in bed.
- Clean - wash running clothes.  Lay everything out.
- Bed at 1:00 AM

Saturday:
-Wake up at 6:00 AM and let Hobbes out.
- Officially wake up at 7:20 AM.
- Get ready.
- Get Lucy and Elsa ready.
- Get Leta and Annie ready.
- Head to our Shun the Sun race at 8:30 AM.  (I may have chickened out of running the 5k again, but I signed us all up for the family fun run.  We will definitely do this again.)
- Tried to find a way to get the double stroller on to the field - not possible from the front entrance.
- Tried to go to the bathroom with Leta and Annie in the double stroller.  We didn't fit in the handicapped bathroom.  I even stood on the toilet to try to shut the door.  It wouldn't.  All I accomplished was that I left shoe prints on the toilet seat and looked like a lunatic.
- Ran our race.  Elsa fell once, worked through the sadness of scraping her knee and didn't give up.  Lucy just may have a future in track and field and ran the whole time, even coming back to see how Elsa was doing after the fall (I've always thought Lucy would make a good long jumper, now I may add runner to the list too).  It was about a mile and just perfect.  Lucy and Elsa felt good about their accomplishment.  They were a little bummed that they didn't win and get a medal.  They only gave medals to those that finished the longer races.  I asked.  They did beat some people, including mom.  Mom maybe shouldn't have eaten so much nacho cheese last night.
- Played at the expo after the race with Clara.
- Went to grandma and grandpa Papa's to talk about the fun time they had at the race.
- Played with cousins.
- Came home to an at home Dad.
- Blogged.

Of course we had to get our faces painted.

Little cousins

Maybe the jog back to the car with 4 aboard this time was a good workout too.

Faces painted, cotton candy and popcorn consumed for free.  Free cookies decorated and eaten, free loot, free craft made, free Jamba Juice, oranges, rolls, bananas, granola bars, and water.  Free bounce house time that often did not have to be shared with other kids.  I love me some carnival time.  Especially when I'm not paying for every little thing.
(Well, I did pay $11.50 each for Lucy and Elsa and I to sign up for the race and get a running number, shirt and bag.)

But, the girls loved the morning.  Exercise and racing is more exciting to them now.  And it may have only been a mile or so, but I'm pretty stoked about our new family hobby.  Besides, jogging with my kids is way less boring than going by myself.

And thank goodness for jogging strollers that I didn't have to pay for, even if the alignment is off, it has no buckles, it is severely sun faded and I almost took out about 10 other fun runners trying to move it through the crowd.  Sorry people.
