Laugh a Little

Sometimes I probably seem a little irreverent at church.

I do remember a few times while growing up, doubled over laughing with my sister Karyn during Sacrament meeting.  That probably wasn't too mature of us, considering I'm pretty sure we were both teenagers at the time.

But today, and many of the recent Sundays, I just couldn't help it - I laughed during church.  At least now I've learned how to do a silent laugh, but I did almost laugh out loud during the sacrament, when everything was pin drop quiet.  That would have been bad.

Lucy had a loose tooth* which frankly was frightening to her.  (I think it was because it happened too fast - it wasn't a gradual process).  While the sacrament was being passed she pulled it out the rest of the way.  So here I am, holding a bloody itty bitty tooth, with Ryan and I sitting like bookends to a crazy mix of girls.  Sandwiched in between us was a 5 year old who looked like she wanted to cry because she was so worried that her tooth fell out, a 2 year old who was screaming because she is high centered on the bench in front of us that she was "swinging" on (she hangs her belly on the top of the bench and lets her legs swing and says, "I swinging."), a few fishy crackers (well, in all honesty "whales", cause they are cheaper) smashed into the floor, another wiggly two year old and another five year old sister and all of her "art" scattered on the bench.  We were a sight and I couldn't help but look down our crazy bench at Ryan as everyone else in the ward seemed to be sitting so quietly waiting for the sacrament to finish being passed and not nearly laugh out loud.

* So I noticed that Lucy's bottom tooth seemed a little more scraggly lately - like her mouth was getting more crowded and that little tooth was being bullied out of the way and turned to the side.  I felt it yesterday and it wasn't wiggly.  I didn't expect it to be since she is not even 5 1/2 yet.  I thought we had another year or so before we enter the phase of loosing teeth.

Well, we were all on mine and Ryan's bed last night because that is Leta and Annie's favorite thing to do now, "Lay in mommy's bed!"  They demand it.  We lay there and read books and try to hold still and be quiet and listen to a few verses of scripture (we try to be righteous.)  While hanging out on the bed, Lucy had bit down on Leta's blanket.  Leta was not having that, screamed (of course, her favorite defense mechanism) and pulled the blanket from Lucy.  Lucy then had this sad/pained look, "my tooth."  Sure enough, we looked at her tiny bottom tooth and it had been pulled quite loose.  I figured it would probably fall out, but in the case that not as much damage had been done as appeared, we told her not to touch it.  Of course she worried that she would swallow it in the night.

Telling her not to touch it didn't work seeing as how she pulled it out during church.

I think all of our comforts are finally paying off.  Reminding her that kids think its cool to loose teeth, that Mallory has lost teeth, and....that the tooth fairy will give her money! seem to make her a little less nervous now.  She likes showing people and she plans to make her big announcement at the Melzer dinner tonight.

She was busy drawing the tooth fairy a picture of an elephant and was quizzing me if the tooth fairy would be scared of Hobbes or if Hobbes might eat the tooth fairy.  I assured her all would be well.

But, now, I'm the one that doesn't know about this loosing tooth business.  It almost feels like they might as well be hitting puberty.

Looking down the isle at Ryan though, it is cute to see him beam with pride watching his beautiful daughters grow up and hit new milestones.

It may be a little irreverent, but I'm thankful I can laugh and that sometimes I almost can't contain it - I truly am happy.

In this view you see the missing tooth AND the whales that are stuck in her molars.
 Still cute.
Holy Cow, my kids are beautiful

Oh, I'm proud of myself for making the girls these church skirts too.  I did it last night as they were sleeping, so they are a tad big in the waist and a tad short on the length.  I guess it evens out because since they are big in the waist, they sag a little, thus making up for my length mistake.  Don't look closely as the hem or the detail, but it's nice to finally do something that has been on my to-do list for the last five years.

Hooray for thrift store fabric and online tutorials.  Seriously, the internet is amazing.  Now I don't have to wing it as much.

Elsa spun herself sick.

your girls are stunning! it is so nice to see little kids that are not overweight or worse. all your children are simply stunning...

ps: this comes from a twinkie mamma who has very thin twin boys and who is tired of hearing how twin they are (o percentile weight since birth, they are now 3...average height, genetically thin)...

Hey at least you can laugh about it instead of getting all harried and stressed out, right?
