Hobbesie Lobbs

We have a cat.  That means I now have to deal with animal poo, feeding another living thing, and waking at 6 to it attacking my hair.  On Sunday Hobbes even grabbed a dead bird (we have an epidemic at our house where several birds have died from smacking into our windows) and ran back into the house with it.  It doesn't sound glorious at all and sometimes I wonder why it doesn't really bother me that much.

I love watching our girls interact with him.  He normally likes to hang out right where the action is too. Rarely will he hide from us.  He has added a fun dimension to our home.

I was telling my sister Karyn about how good it is to have a pet in our home and how good it is for our girls.  Her response, "I think it's good for you to have Hobbes because it makes you feel more like you."  (or something to that effect)

Amen Karyn.  I guess I never fully realized, but having a pet has made me feel like the person I always thought I would be.  I was the kid who brought home stray cats and now that I've reverted back to that feeling of my childhood, it feels more like me.  It was a good choice to stop pouring over the pro/con list of pet ownership and just go for it.

Besides, we all like that sometimes it feels like we have a miniature mountain lion in our home.

Who knows, we will probably get a dog ones of these days too.  You can tell me all the cons you want, I have thought of them all and more, but, sorry to say, the Melzer's are now pet people.  We have a pet and we like it.  (Besides, I think it would be Leta's "therapy" dog.  That girl loves her puppies.)

Oh, and I'm taking this one as my ultimate compliment:  The other day I asked Lucy and Elsa what they wanted for Christmas.  They said they wanted to get a mom cat for Hobbes.  They feel bad that he doesn't have a mommy to take care of him.  (They must think a mom is pretty special and everyone needs one.)
